Week Five Post

This week was proxemics. Quick description of proxemics is how your communicate comfort by how close you allow others to get to you. There are 4 zones which start at public zone (about 25 ft and beyond), social zone (24 ft - 12 ft), personal zone (11ft - 1.5ft), and lastly intimate zone (1 foot - touching). The listed distanced are not concrete and can vary for person to person based on many factors such as culture or personal comfort levels.

To better display this my lovely girl Mari has agreed to help (after promises of 10 minutes of brushing everyday and sole ownership of the cat tree in my room). In this first picture she is in the social zone of Mister (the one in the cat house). This is a zone were they acknowledge each others existence and are comfortable with the other being there, but don't have to interact. Bonus: Monte (the orange one) is in the personal space of Mister because he doesn't know that spaces farther than personal exist.

In the next picture, Mari can be seen in the intimate space of my boyfriends computer. She is making physical contact with it which is as close as a person (in his case cat) can be. I hope they went on a lovely date beforehand because this zone is saved for only the people you are the most comfortable with.

Week Four Post

This week we talked about kinetics. In short they are physical things a person does is in reaction to a situation such as facial expressions, body language, gestures, and posture. To test how well I understood the material this week I wanted to view the Lady Gaga song "Telephone" with kinetics in mind.

The first major emotion I noticed being portrayed through kinetics was the guards dislike of Gaga. They are rough as they lead her to her cell and push her around once she is in there. The kinetics being used her are body language to display how they feel distain. For contrast later in the video a different guard is leading Gaga into a prison yard and that guard treats her much gentler showing that this guard doesn't have the same level if dislike.

Once Gaga is out of prison we can see another example of nonverbal communication. She gets in a car with Beyoncé and we can tell immediately that she is upset with Gaga. She has an unamused expression on her face then says that Gaga has been "A very bad girl. A very, very bad BAD girl Gaga". After that she angerly takes a bite out of a honey bun, then offers it to Gaga. When Gaga takes a bit and doesn't let go, Beyoncé rips it out of her mouth.

In the post prison part of the video there is even more kinetics, but the post would be WAY too long if I talked about all of them. I encourage you to look for yourself as its a really cool music video and a banger of a song.

Week Three (Reupload)

 Week 3 Post (Reupload)

For this week we just kind of did a preview of all the concepts that are upcoming and because of that I have a lot I could talk about. But I would rather do a little experiment with this.

I taught my boyfriend about the nonverbal cues and had him look for them in me while we watched a 20 minute TV show. This helped me understand the things I do without thinking. As it was such a short amount of time, he only noticed two things. I stick my tongue out just a little bit when I think along with stare off into the distance.
